As well as surfing, activities at Maqai include snorkeling on the reef outside the resort, kayaking, and volleyball. For those wanting to keep things ultra relaxed, there are gentle jungle walks, while table tennis and chess can be enjoyed on site. In the evening guests have the opportunity to enjoy kava nights, singing and dancing.

Maqai has adopted several eco initiatives including solar power for energy, an organic vegetable and fruit allotment, coral reef protection, environmental education, waste recycling, and the use of fresh spring water. The lodge supports local villages through employment and support local business enterprise. Maqai was winner of the 2012 Lonely Planet Sustainability Award and one of 3 finalists in the ANZ Fiji Excellence in Tourism Awards 2016 in the Sustainability category.
