PREVIEW

Less than 2 hours from Indonesia’s frenetic capital, Pulau Macan is a small resort straddling two islands in the famous 1000 island (Pulau Seribu) archipelago that exemplifies the best in sustainable, comfortable, tropical lifestyles.

STAY

Surrounded by azure waters and coral gardens teeming with fish, Pulau Macan offers simple, comfy cabanas set back from the beach. Packages are based on 2 day 1 nights with varying accommodations, even tents, and the option to extend your visit. Transfers and food and beverage are included – much of the produce is grown in the resorts organic gardens.

PLAY

If you can drag yourself away from your hammock or beach towel, there’s great snorkelling and you can also hire a boat to do some island hopping and explore other reefs. Scuba diving can also be arranged.

SUSTAIN

The resort’s been designed to have a minimal impact on the islands’ ecosystems. Most structures – even chandeliers - are built from locally available driftwood. Organic waste is composted (to grow guests’ vegetables), and glass, paper, and metals are recycled. Tap and bathing water is reused for the organic garden, while rainwater is also harvested to be used during dry spells. Pulau Macan also uses solar panels to generate electricity. The resort owes its beautiful reefs to a local family that has been watching over them for more than 20 years. A portion of the resort’s income goes towards supporting mangrove planting and turtle hatcheries in the region.
