Set on a spectacular cliff top at Bali’s southern tip, Alila Uluwatu marries high design, impeccable service and sheer creative flair with a commitment to sustainability. STAY

One and three bedroom pool villas gazing out over the Indian Ocean exude understated luxury. Clean contemporary design is accented with organic elements like rattan, wood and water. Passive cooling is in built with light bamboo ceilings allowing sea breezes to circulate. Acclaimed destination restaurant Cire takes East Asia as its inspiration filtered through western techniques to cooking. The Warung serves up refinements on local Balinese and Indonesian dishes. The 50m infinity pool is arguably the most dramatic in Bali.

SUSTAIN

Alila Uluwatu was Bali’s first venue to receive the highest level of Green Globe certification for Environmentally Sustainable Design. To minimize the hotel’s impact on site, the master plan respects the natural contours to avoid cutting and fill, and draws mostly on locally-sourced construction materials. All large trees have been either maintained on site or transplanted nearby, while the local vegetation was surveyed and documented, with some specimens sent to Kew Gardens for identification. Soaks, rain gardens and grey water recycling systems address the water shortage in the area.
