Scuba Junkie is an award winning 5* PADI IDC dive centre and resort acclaimed not only for its dive operations, but also for its conservation and community based projects. Set up in 2004, it’s located in Borneo in one of the richest parts of the Coral Triangle, with centers in Kota Kinabalu, Semporna and Mabul island, close to the world famous Sipadan Island.
STAY
The Scuba Junkie Mabul Beach Resort has 25 rooms from Dormitory to Deluxe VIP on the island of Mabul, an hour boat ride Semporna on mainland Borneo surrounded by hundreds of world class dive sites and a short 20mins boat ride from the outstanding dive destination of Sipadan Island. The resort caters for divers, snorkelers as well as people coming to experience the area, its people and the conservation work spearheaded by Scuba Junkie.
DIVE
The area boasts some of the best 'muck' and big fish diving in the world with an amazing array of corals and marine species from nudibranchs, frog fish, flamboyant cuttle fish to sharks, rays and an abundance of sea turtles.
SUSTAIN
Scuba Junkie has a full time Environmental Project Manager and Shark conservationist, as well as four Marine Biologists and Marine Scientits working on environmental projects such as shark and ray conservation, turtle hatchery, reef and beach cleans, reef transect surveys, school and community based projects. Add to this green sewage systems, solar energy, water catchment, recycling and more and it’s not surprising that Scuba Junkie won consecutive 'Wild Asia Responsible Tourism Awards for Protection Of Wild Species' in 2012/13.
